The term martial arts describes an incredible array of combative disciplines based on ancient fighting arts. Most are eastern in origin and were once used primarily for interpersonal combat. Today the practice of the martial arts has evolved into much more than just self-defense. The martial arts of today have become a way to focus on the development of the individual and of the mind and body. The practice of the martial arts teaches people to reach their maximum potential as human beings and foster personal values and positive character traits such as courage loyalty, humility, honor and integrity.
History of Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame
Founder Professor Silverio Guerra, Ph.D., M.A., a 10thDegree Black Belt in Karate and Ju-Jitsu, saw a pressing need for a respected institution based on integrity which could establish and encourage true standards of excellence within the many individual organizations which make up the martial arts community worldwide. To do this Professor Guerra brought together an immersive group of established martial arts Masters to sit on his Board of Directors for the Hall of Fame with their primary function being to carefully evaluate prospective inductees in order to determine if they are worthy of induction. Only those who meet stringent standards are considered and only those who pass a rigorous comprehensive evaluation are finally approved for induction into this prestigious institution.
